FAQs
What if I have never danced and don't know if I can?
We've got you covered! We specialize in teaching new dancers. Only brand-new dancers are in our Intro classes, and we support one another as we progress.
But I don't have a partner.
No problem! If you want to be a strong dancer, it's better to dance with more than one person anyway. In our classes, we rotate partners. This increases adaptability on the dance floor.
If you rotate partners, can couples still come to class?
Absolutely! About half of our students come to class with a partner and about half come without a partner. Students who come to class with a partner still rotate partners in order to become stronger dancers.
What dances will I learn?
Our Intro to Waltz, Tango, and Foxtrot class focuses on these classic ballroom dances. The Intro to Swing and Latin Dance focuses on faster-paced dances; specifically, east coast swing, cha cha, and rumba. These dances can be adapted to be danced to contemporary music. These classes are offered on weekday evenings and during the day on Saturday and Sunday. Adults (and older teenagers) of all ages are welcome in these classes.
In addition, we offer two classes specifically for Boomers and (Older) GenXers. These are Intro to Waltz and Foxtrot for Boomers and (Older) GenXers and Intro to Swing and Rumba for Boomers and (Older) GenXers. These classes are offered on weekday afternoons.
Our Intro classes are designed for new dancers with the goal of students learning enough about Ballroom/Latin dancing to find out if this is something they would like to pursue.
Am I too old (or young)?
It's always time to dance. Students in the studio range from their late teens through their 70s. Occasionally, we also offer kids/teens classes.
Can I afford it? I've heard dance lessons are expensive.
Dance can be expensive. However, because we offer private group classes and have a low overhead, we can offer affordable classes. We teach in six-week sessions, and the cost is $60/person for the six classes.
Can I drop in to a class or do I need to commit to a six-week session?
We offer private group classes that are offered in six-week sessions rather than on a drop-in basis. This way the same group of students stay together during the session and learn the same steps at the same time, which makes dancing more fun for everyone.
I don't have any dance shoes and don't know what to wear to class.
New dancers can wear whatever they are comfortable moving in to class. Most people either wear workout clothes or casual slacks and shirts. And you don't need dance shoes! For our Intro to Waltz, Tango, and Foxtrot class and our Intro to Swing and Latin Dance class, we dance in socks. They help us slide our feet. Students in the Intro to Salsa class and students in either of our classes for Boomers and (Older) GenXers can wear street shoes to class. If students want to keep dancing after the first session, we can give you advice on buying your own dance shoes.
When can I start?
Please see the Schedule page on this website for what we are offering. New sessions start approximately every 7-8 weeks.
Where can I dance outside of class?
We regularly hold Studio Social Dances on Friday evenings. It's a great opportunity to dance what you have learned in a social context and to meet other students in our studio.
