Colorado PRM Fellows

Colorado's fellowship match is open to 2 PRM fellows per year with a fellowship program that can educate 4 PRM fellows.  PRM Fellows work closely with a PGY-5 Pediatrics/PM&R combined resident who is at CHCO for 10-12 months as well as the PM&R residents from the University of Colorado.  This creates a rich learning community and camaraderie among our fellows and well as ample teaching opportunities for our fellows.

Class of '24

Children's Hospital mini-tour!

Denesh Ratnasingam, MD

Hey everyone! My name is Denesh and I am a 2nd year Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine Fellow alongside Jeremy. I’m from Melbourne, Australia, and grew up in New Zealand, Vermont, and Missouri. I went to Medical School and completed my Preliminary Internal Medicine Year at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine. I completed my PM&R residency at the Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan (Detroit Medical Center/Wayne State University). I chose Children’s Colorado for the incredible opportunities to see patients from all over Colorado and 6 neighboring states, nationally, and internationally and learn to provide care regardless of zip code and socioeconomic status; for the amazing procedural opportunities; for the exposure to diverse PM&R and multidisciplinary outpatient clinics, for the well-rounded inpatient and consult PM&R services, and for the diverse faculty, fellows, combined Peds-PM&R residents, PM&R residents, and interdisciplinary team that were all unbelievably welcoming and made me feel like I was already part of the team during my virtual interview process.

Fun Fact: I am an avid cross-country runner, savor at the opportunity to cook new recipes and eat different cultural cuisines, fond of any literature by Fredrik Backman, enjoy musical theatre and movies, and am a Liverpool FC, New Zealand All Blacks Rugby, and Kansas City Chiefs fan.

Jeremy Roberts, MD

Hello all!  My name is Jeremy Roberts and I am a 2nd year PRM fellow at Children's Hospital Colorado! I am from Long Island, went to Cornell University for undergrad (Let's Go Red!), Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell for Medical School, and NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital for my Rehab Residency.  I recently got married to my wonderful wife Rachel in March, 2023. I love to go running, listen to sports podcasts as I work out, obsess over my Mets, Jets, and Knicks, and take strong care of my Fantasy Football team.  I am always quoting The Office and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.  I enjoy singing Karaoke (Alanis Morissette is my go to), going down Wikipedia rabbit holes, and have recently gotten into war documentaries and books.  Though I am a native New Yorker, I plan to continue exploring and get some vitamin D in the great outdoors of Colorado!

Fun Fact: I ran the Virtual NYC Marathon in 2020 (4 loops around Central Park) and can eat an entire pie of pizza on my own.

Welcome Class of '25!

Erin Mundy, MD

Hi! I'm Erin. I've always been passionate about how the wires and cables that make up our bodies manifest the watercolor of daily life. PM&R has always celebrated that concept and helped to restore or improve it for people in their day to day. Peds Rehab took it another level when functional goals included playing, learning, and just being silly! I was entranced from the moment I stepped into the rehab unit in Atlanta. My mentors in Atlanta had endless good things to say about Colorado's Peds Rehab program, and my husband Cody, who is in the Air Force, got stationed at the Buckley Air Force Base. I am not exaggerating when I say it is a real dream come true to be in Colorado for the depth of expertise of the faculty, and quality of Peds Rehab training, and that both of our career paths landed us in the same place, after being long distance for my 4 years of residency.

Fun Fact: Outside of work, I spend most of my free time training for the sport of Olympic Weightlifting. I'm entirely too tall to ever be a candidate for the real Olympics, but I've been lucky enough to compete on a national stage!

Cara Vernacchia, DO

Hi everyone! I am so excited to begin my fellowship at Children's Hospital Colorado! I was born and raised in San Luis Obispo, California and attended Dartmouth for college where I majored in Neuroscience. I went to medical school at Touro University in California and residency at Shirley Ryan AbilityLab. I chose Colorado because I truly enjoyed my virtual interview day getting to know all of the Peds Rehab faculty and fellows. I was impressed by the number of multidisciplinary clinics, educational opportunities for the fellows, and the dedication of the faculty to our learning and wellness. The breadth of pathology, in addition to the rural clinics, was another draw for me. I know that I will leave fellowship feeling comfortable managing any kiddo who walks in my office door! And lastly, PRM at Colorado seems like a family, and I was looking for a fellowship with that type of camaraderie.

Fun Fact: I was a long and triple jumper in college, but since then, I've become more of a long-distance runner. I completed my first half marathon in 2022 and would someday like to run a full marathon!

Other Fellows at CHCO

Fellows at CHCO created a video montage sharing their experiences as fellows at the hospital. PRM fellows participate in the Children's GME Fellowship Education program with fellows from all other Pediatric Fellowships. Other than happy hours and fellow retreats, the seminars focus on research principles, wellness, and systems-based care.
