My name is Elke Steiner (44). Although I have lived in Austria ever since, born in the middle of the Alps, I never forgot my Italian roots, as my grandpa was originally from Italy. My profession is being a Physiotherapist and Osteopath, my passion is coffee and coffeemakers. One day, I was about 16 years old, my father gave me three old Viennese Kayser Coffeemakers, that somebody wanted to throw away. Throw away? I couldn’t believe that. For me these three coffeemakers were treasures. Each of them with their specific history, an amazing untold story and of unique design. In this moment my love to coffeemakers was born. Since then, my eyes kept looking for coffeemakers on every single flee market. And Collecting coffee machines became my passion and simultaneously a great adventure.By now my collection includes roughly 300 pieces: of different design (which is my focus), function, covering more than four centuries. By collecting coffeemakers another special interest was aroused: the old Austrian culture of coffee houses and the Viennese coffeehouse literary figures, like Friedrich Torberg, Stefan Zweig, Felix Salten, Karl Kraus…and also the K&K Hofspängler (plumbers for the Austrian emperor ) and inventors of Viennese coffee machines like Josef Denk, Erich Kolbenheyer, Richard Emmer, August Reiss before and around 1900. I am a great Bauhaus ( Art Deco ) Fan and I love Glass coffeemakers …
But to be honest: I love all kind of domestic coffeemakers!
