What is a Rice Planter?

Rice Planters are local high school students who are representatives of the Rice Festival and volunteer to serve as support for setup, events, sales, and more. Students must submit an application with letters of reference and undergo an interview process before being selected as a Rice Planter. These students excel academically, exhibit quality personality traits, and are involved in both their school and their community . They are sure to be future leaders!

2024 Rice Planters:

Blake Spears

Blake is a Junior at Colleton Preparatory Academy. He is a member of Student Council, National Honor Society, and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He plays Varsity Soccer, Basketball, and Golf. He serves as the Co-President of the Bethel United Methodist Youth Group. He works as a Maintenance Worker at the Dogwood Hills Country Club. Blake’s favorite attraction at the Rice Festival is serving in the Citivan’s Rice Pot. This is Blake’s second year serving as a Rice Planter.

Anne Hatcher White

Anne Hatcher is a Junior at Colleton Preparatory Academy. She is involved in National Honor Society, the Fellowship of christian Athletes, and Student Council. She is a member of the Varsity Tennis, Cheerleading, Basketball, and Soccer teams. She serves as the Co-President of the Bethel United Methodist Youth Group. Anne Hatcher’s favorite attraction at the Rice Festival is the Rice Run. This is Anne Hatcher’s second year serving as a Rice Planter. 

Sidney Bailey

Sidney is a Senior at Colleton Preparatory Academy. She is involved in the Fellowship for Christian Athletes, Varsity Softball, Tennis, Cheerleading, and Basketball. She is also a member of the Youth Group at First Baptist Church of Walterboro. She is also a Hostess at Olde House Cafe. Sidney’s favorite Rice Festival Event is the dog show. This is Sidney’s sixth year serving as a Rice Planter.

Carter Sims

Carter is a Junior at Colleton Preparatory Academy. He is a member of the Varsity Football, Wrestling, and Golf teams. He serves as the Student Body Sergeant at Arms and the Vice President for the National Honor Society. He is also a member of the Fellowship of Student Athletes. He works at the Seacow Eatery in Edisto Beach. Carter’s favorite event at the Rice Festival is the dog show. This is Carter’s first year serving as a Rice Planter.

Connor Nettles

Connor is a Junior at Colleton Preparatory Academy. He participates on the Varsity Football and Soccer teams, as well as the Chess team. He is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He is also a member of the Youth Group at the First Baptist Church of Walterboro. Connor’s favorite event at the Rice Festival is the car show. This is Connor’s first year serving as a Rice Planter.

Caden Griffith

Caden is a Junior at Colleton Preparatory Academy. He is a member of the Varsity Golf team. He is also a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He works with one of his close friends doing detailing work and also works with his brother doing junk removal occasionally. His favorite attraction at the Rice Festival is the Food Court. This is Caden’s second year serving as a Rice Planter.

Rianna Bailey

Rianna is a Senior at The University of South Carolina, where she will be gaining her degree in Elementary Education. Rianna will graduate with Leadership Distinction through her community service. She serves as the Secretary of Kappa Delta Pi, the College of Education Representative in the Admissions Student Council, and a fifth-grade Student Teacher. She is a member of the Club Tennis Team and the USC Study Abroad Program. Rianna’s favorite event at the Rice Festival is the Rice Run. This is Rianna’s tenth year serving as a Rice Planter, and her second serving on the Rice Planter lead team.
