Digital Projects and Datasets

Whenever possible, I try to supplement my research with public facing digital companions.  These allow both interactive visualization of the research findings, but often downloadable data as well.

Patchwork Apartheid

The book site at Russell Sage includes interactive maps, color versions of all the maps in the book, additional maps, and datasets (shapefiles and codebooks) for racial restrictions in St. Louis, St. Louis County, Waterloo IA, and Johnson County IA.  ➡️ GO TO SITE.

Dividing the City: Private Race Restriction in Greater St. Louis

Dividing the City, developed in cooperation with the University of Iowa's Digital Studio, includes an interactive map of private restriction in St. Louis and St. Louis County, sample restrictions, and a summary discussion of the geography and implications of private restriction. ➡️GO TO SITE.  

Racially Restrictive Covenants 

This site, hosted by the Metropolitan St. Louis Equal Housing and Opportunity Council and intended for a local audience, summarizes and maps racial restrictions in Greater St. Louis. ➡️GO TO SITE.  

Mapping Segregation In Iowa

Mapping Segregation in Iowa, developed in cooperation with the University of Iowa's Digital Studio, includes interactive maps of private restriction in two Iowa counties, with six more under development. ➡️GO TO SITE.
