What is Mediation?

Mediation is a process which separating or disputing parties attend in order to settle their differences without costly court or lawyer fees.

The mediation model that the Australian Family Law Court adheres to is the Facilitative Model. This is an 8 step model that with the help of the mediator both parties work through in order to resolve the dispute.

Amaya is a qualified FDRP and NMAS registered mediator.

The process involves an intake interview and assessment prior to mediation.

Who Needs Mediation?

The Australian Family Law Court mandates that any parties with children or property need to attend mediation prior to going to court in order to obtain a 60I certificate.

Anybody in dispute that is having trouble reconciling their differences can benefit from mediation.

How Cognition Counselling Differs

The skills developed throughout counselling enable mediation to occur in an environment of unconditional positive regard overlaid with a knowledge of how family systems work. This aids the process of both parties being able to address relationship issues to develop an understanding of each others needs in order to reach arrangements that are in the best interests of their children's physical, emotional and mental well being.
