In the context of initial teacher education, The Erasmus+ project Developing Communities of Globally Engaged Teachers (CoGET) aims at developing pedagogically mentored contexts and conditions for diverse communities of pre-service teachers. In VirtualPLCs, pre-service teachers with different national, linguistic, disciplinary and cultural backgrounds collaboratively design inclusive pedagogy that incorporates global citizenship education and intercultural competence development to be used in increasingly multilingual and multicultural primary and secondary education classrooms.
CoGET creates and facilitates VirtualPLCs in the innovative tailormade CoGET Third Space which is a 3D virtual environment that is used as a lingua franca space for the collaboration. Here, pre-service teachers are pedagogically mentored by professionalized teacher educators and experts who employ Challenged-Based Learning (CBL) to address global issues like social justice and migration. Together, they design, test, and refine inclusive pedagogical activities for diverse classrooms, fostering global citizenship and intercultural competence.
The project yields CBL as a context-embedded innovative inclusive pedagogical approach to which global citizenship and intercultural competence are central, to be used in diverse primary and secondary classrooms. CoGET delivers three key outcomes: a sustainable international network of globally engaged teachers who effectively teach diverse classrooms, context-embedded activities for inclusive pedagogy and enhanced connections between initial teacher education and the professional field.
The CoGET project is funded by the European Commission within the Erasmus+ programme.
