Breathwork is a collection of breathing techniques that allow you to move between different nervous system states. It has been described as psychotherapy through the body rather than language.
What is the impact:
Physiological: it can lead to a more regulated nervous system (relief from stress and anxiety) and help with digestion
Psychological: it can make the unconscious conscious and lead to a better understanding of your own behavioural patterns, and empower you to change them
Altered states of consciousness: for some, it can lead to altered states of consciousness where memories surface, trauma or emotions are released, and some report “spiritual" experiences or a sense of oneness
Your role vs the facilitator’s role:
