FLORIDA BUILDING PRODUCT APPROVAL
FLORIDA BUILDING PRODUCT APPROVAL
A Florida Building Product Approval, commonly known as FL#, is a unique identification number issued by the Florida Building Commission to building products that meet specific standards and requirements in the state of Florida.
To obtain a FL# approval, manufacturers must submit their building products to a rigorous evaluation process that includes testing and documentation to demonstrate compliance with Florida's building codes and regulations. The evaluation process is performed by accredited third-party agencies, such as the International Code Council Evaluation Service (ICC-ES) or the Miami-Dade County Product Control Division.
The FL# is important because it indicates that a building product has been thoroughly tested and evaluated for compliance with Florida's building codes and regulations. It is required by law for certain building products used in construction projects in Florida, including windows, doors, roofing, and other structural components. Having a FL# approval can also make it easier for building contractors and architects to specify and select building products that meet the requirements of the Florida Building Code.
The Florida Product Approval Number is more commonly known and read as the “FL #” is a statewide product approval system for
certain products tested and validated that meets state requirements including High Velocity Hurricane Zoqnes (HVHZ).
Florida adopts a new code every three years plus annual supplements, and additional code changes have been mandated by the Florida Legislature as a result of recent hurricanes.
Many other states accept documentation from Florida provided it meets the intended use in some form or another as the IBC has similar requirements.
