I had the privilege of designing a t-shirt style graphic for JIMDYcar competitor Maxwell Weiss, driver of the #56 7-Eleven Ford. JIMdycar is a virtual IndyCar racing league that is hosted on the Assetto Corsa racing simulator.
This graphic was a blast to make; creating t-shirt designs is not something I was very familiar with going in, but getting to work with this paint scheme and the vibrant 7-Eleven colors to create a design that matches the energy of the scheme was extremely fun. Additionally, getting to test the waters with halftone dot patterns to create that sort-of "cartoony" shading style was a super fun process that helps tie the project together and make it look like an actual racing t-shirt design.
This is one of my favorite projects I have ever gotten to work on!
In December of 2025, motorsport designer and artist Turn 4 Graphics held a "Paint Scheme of the Month" challenge, with the objective being to design a Dirt Late Model in the spirit of the "Prelude to the Dream" race run at Eldora Speedway in the mid 2000s. However, there was a catch: designs had to be based on a paint scheme or design from another form of motorsport.
The design I chose to tackle was that of the Reptoid monster truck, a custom Chevrolet S10 owned and campaigned by driver Jim Jack that was designed to look like a giant reptile, complete with rainbow scales going across the body and a custom front end featuring eyes and teeth. Turning the design of a monster truck into a dirt late model paint scheme was no easy task, but creating it was a blast, working the red eyes and the giant teeth into the front end of the car was quite the challenge but getting to to look right was so rewarding. Additionally, the graphic I put together for it features the iconic US Hot Rod Association shield that has been edited to read "PRELUDE TO THE DREAM", a fun creative nod to the race that served as the basis for the contest, and subsequently the paint scheme.
The Avenger monster truck owned and driven by "Mr. Excitement" Jim Koehler has been a mainstay in the monster truck industry for nearly thirty years, and one of its biggest calling cards is its long history of extravagant, flashy paint jobs. Many monster truck fans have aimed to create their own paint schemes for the biggest and baddest 1957 Chevy Bel Air on the planet, including myself!
With 2026 being a milestone year for the United States of America -- the nation is celebrating its Semiquincentennial, turning two-hundred and fifty years old -- I figured that there was no better time to create a paint scheme for one of the most storied and legendary monster trucks that reflects this historic milestone.
The paint scheme itself trades in Avenger's traditional lime green body with orange and yellow flames for the red-and-white stripes of the American flag and a deep navy blue with golden stars shooting along the sides of the truck, separated by a custom-made Avenger logo complete with the Avenger skull mascot adorned with an Uncle Sam-style top hat and a star in the skull's eye.
Rigs Of Rods Monster Jam Live is a virtual monster truck racing league hosted on Sim-Monsters.com, the largest hub of virtual monster truck content and competition on the internet, has served as a springboard for many drivers and personnel within the monster truck industry!
Season 10 of Monster Jam Live is set to take place over the summer of 2026, and I was approached by the owner of the league to replicate the designs for two monster trucks that will be present in competition, those being Dan Patrick's Samson monster truck and Rick Swanson's Obsession monster truck.
Replicating each of these paint schemes presented each of their own unique challenges. The design of Samson features many subtle airbrushed details in its design which were challenging to replicate to an accurate degree, while the creation of Obsession required the recreation and image tracing of several logos featured on the truck; additionally, learning how to create specular maps for the paint job was required in order to replicate the chrome front bumper featured on the real-life truck.
