The CNY/Oswego County Teacher Center focuses on long range projects that drive change. Through our special projects we move and inspire change in the way teachers, buildings, and districts interact with and engage students in learning. We value a focus on long range goals. rather than the traditional one and done training, as we disseminate and support our NYS Learning Standards.
Our teachers are our treasures and our champions. Our participants continuously learn with an eye on academic and social achievement for all of our students. The CNY/OC Teacher Center empowers our teachers to 'lead up' and inspire change within their buildings and districts to continuously improve the way we interact with students to help every student learn and achieve.
Do you have an idea for a professional learning opportunity to benefit your colleagues? We'd love to hear from you! Whether a workshop, specific training or book study- let us know!
Do you have a topic that you and your colleagues would like to explore further? The Central New York/Oswego County Teacher Center is excited to offer professional development in the form of Professional Learning Communities and Collegial Circles. The purpose of this opportunity is to invite teachers to examine and improve professional practice and evaluate related student outcomes. The program provides teacher teams with structured time to reflect on practice and collaborate in the research, analysis, implementation, and documentation of teacher applied practices/procedures and the resulting impact on student learning, achievement and educational experience. This opportunity enables teams of teachers to pursue professional growth in collaboratively identified areas of need. Examples could include book studies, curriculum development, technology integration, etc.

The CNY/Oswego County Teacher Center was the first to bring LETRS Training to our region during the summer of 2018 for a collaboration introduced by the Teacher Center and pulled together with The Reading League, all 9 districts in Oswego County and Citi BOCES. Since then, LETRS has spread to schools throughout our region and NYS. LETRS evidence based approach to reading and spelling helps all of our kids learn to read.
LETRS training broadens the reach of our reading instruction by building our background knowledge and strengthening our ability to:
Distinguish between the research base for best practices and other competing ideas not supported by scientific evidence.
Understand how language, reading and writing are related to one another.
Make instructional decisions and program choices with reference to scientific research evidence, strategic use of assessments, and observations of students.
Deliver comprehensive, integrated, language, and literacy instruction as defined by standards and by research for a given grade, age, or ability level.
Facilitate early identification and intervention with reading problems, including dyslexia.
The CNY/OC Teacher Center continues to work in collaboration with OCM BOCES to provide free LETRS training in an effort to support all of our consortium districts. Our goal is to provide the opportunity for interested teachers to elevate their learning to district Facilitator status. Achieving our goal provides each consortium district with the internal resources necessary to have highly qualified 'teachers teaching teachers', therefore reaching district independence in LETRS learning to meet current learning needs, and be prepared for future onboarding needs, with in-house programs.
