No longer only focusing on the PMTCT of HIV, this guideline also looks at the prevention of Tuberculosis, Syphilis and Hepatitis B.

The CMH Family Medicine HIV&TB presentation for February 2024 focused on the NDOH Viral Hepatitis guideline of 2019, highlighting the diagnosis and management of Active Hepatitis B infection, both acute and chronic.
This presentation hopes to demystify chronic hepatitis B and identify which patients may warrant screening, treatment and closer follow-up.
A 2024 update on Syphilis diagnosis, prevention and treatment in South Africa. Dr Madeleine Muller
There has been a worrying increase in congenital syphilis in South Africa. The NDOH has aligned itself with the WHO’s goal of eradicating congenital syphilis by 2028. In August 2023, the NDOH included syphilis prevention in the Prevention of Vertical Transmission Guideline, and in May 2024, the SAHCS published their guideline on the Clinical Management of Syphilis.
This webinar summarises the recommendations of these two guidelines and was broadcast live on 31 May 2024 from the Family Medicine Boardroom at Cecilia Makiwane Hospital in Mdantsane, East London, South Africa.

The patient with Advanced HIV Disease in the acute setting.

This presentation focuses on managing ill patients with HIV who present in a Casualty or A&E setting. Using the SAHCS Advanced HIV DIsease guidelines, Dr Muller discusses a systematic approach to assessing and stabilising the patient with advanced disease. Including presentations such as Shortness of Breath, Meningitis signs, Neurological fallout, diarrhoea and altered mental state.
It also briefly covers the baseline work-up of the patient in A&E or Thuthuzela who is found to be HIV positive (as an incidental finding).

ALTERED MENTAL STATE IN PLHIV
This Funda Friday presentation focuses on the person living with HIV presenting at a healthcare facility with an altered mental state. Using the approach as outlined by the SAHCS Guideline for Advanced HIV Disease, this tutorial covers delirium, dementia and psychosis.
