Getting started

You are going to make an ostinato (constantly repeated musical pattern) based on how the Promenade (unhurried walk or stroll) was written in Pictures.

1a. Choose ONE artist and ONE of their artworks. The artwork could be a painting, drawing, sculpture, model, as long the artwork itself is inanimate.

1b. Imagine you walk into a gallery with the artwork/s and you are free to move in anyway you chose to. Chose an action of how you could move around in the gallery and physically re-enact it i.e. walking, running, skipping, dancing, tiptoeing, limping etc.

1c. Clap or tap a rhythm could represent the action you have chosen. Then try the same rhythm using different body percussions and playing the rhythm on any note on a pitched instrument. Consider: smooth rhythm - happiness/peace, irregular rhythm - uneasiness/amusement, varied rhythm - joy

Rhythm Example:

1d. Choose a scale in major, minor, pentatonic, blues etc. from the sheet attached 'Scales in C' and add notes to the rhythm created, that will further describe your action. Play it repeatedly.

You have created an ostinato that represents your movement!
