Tryouts
Team members are selected through a competitive tryout system the first week of classes each fall semester. Members interested in trying out for the team will need to provide their weekday schedule and then will be assigned a tryout time according to their availability. They will need to arrive at the Clemson University Equestrian Center at least 20 minutes prior to their tryout time with a tryout fee made payable to Clemson University.
The actual tryout will last no longer than 30 minutes. If you do not have riding clothes or a helmet, please let us know and we will arrange some for you. If you do not have a car, we will arrange a ride for you. Swing by our table at Tiger Prowl and follow our social media pages for more information regarding the interest meeting and tryouts.
Please bring with you water, your health insurance card, and the following:
Please dress appropriately in breeches, a clean polo shirt tucked in, belt, boots, and an approved riding helmet.
Please dress appropriately in jeans, a clean polo shirt tucked in, belt, boots, and an approved riding helmet.
Summer Camps
This intensive riding camp gives riders a taste of what it's like to ride on the Clemson Equestrian Team. Participants ride Equestrian Team horses twice daily in Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) format under the instruction of the Team's head coach, while also experiencing the culture of Clemson University from a student perspective. Our newest camp, Tiger's Choice made its debut in summer of 2018, and takes place in June each year. It follows a similar format to our Tiger Talent camp, but is geared especially toward older participants. Riders eligible for this camp are rising high school juniors, seniors, or incoming Clemson University freshman, who are interested in riding for the Equestrian Team. Attendees must be least 16 years of age at the time of camp. Please contact us at cuec@clemson.edu for more information. HUNT SEAT ONLY.
Open to rising 9th graders through soon-to-be college freshmen (ages 13-18), Tiger’s Rein caters specifically to western riders. This three-day equestrian day camp offers twice daily riding instruction with our western team coach. Riders will be divided according to riding level (prior riding experience is required) and will be given the opportunity to ride a variety of level-appropriate equestrian team horses. Lessons will focus on horsemanship and equitation skills, and riders will utilize a variety of railwork and pattern exercises to hone their skills. Campers will enjoy recreational activities and educational workshops in addition to riding sessions. Space is limited, so prompt registration is suggested.
