What is IHSA? What are shows like?
We compete in the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA). Every rider draws a random horse for every class they are entered In. There is a description sheet with brief information about all of the horses present, but there is no warm up. More information about the format & overall IHSA rules can be found at https://www.ihsainc.com/.
Is it free to join the team?
No, all members must pay club dues and showing fees.
Does the team offer English or Western Riding?
The team offers both english (hunt seat) and western riding. Both teams compete in IHSA competitions.
Can I take a tour of the barn and meet with someone for more information?
All farm tours can be requested through emailing our farm managers at cuec@clemson.edu. The farm managers are very knowledgeable about the team and should be able to answer questions during your tours! If you still have more questions, feel free to email us at clemsoneqteam@gmail.com.
Do I have to tryout?
Yes, all CET members must tryout. We do not have a "recruitment" process.
Do I have to have my own horse?
No! Team members will ride horses provided by CUEC.
Do I have to have riding experience?
No, we are looking for riders of all levels from beginner to advanced.
Can I bring my own horse?
A limited number of stalls are available for boarding in our boarding barn. Horses receive premium, individualized care. Boarders must be affiliated with Clemson University as a student, staff or faculty member and have a strong commitment to professionalism, safety and growing their equestrian knowledge. For more information about availability for student boarding, contact cuec@clemson.edu. There are also ample public and private boarding barns in the greater Clemson area that can suit every rider's needs and budget.
I am a bridge student, can I still participate? What about graduate students?
Bridge-to-Clemson and graduate students and can participate in some Clemson Club Sports, however, the IHSA rules limit the team to full-time undergrad students enrolled at Clemson University. You are welcome to volunteer at the CU Equine Center to be involved with horses. Additionally, you can come to support our riders at the IHSA shows both on and off campus and are permitted to travel with the team!
