Competition Membership
Each new member completes a form and attends tryouts to establish placement level. As a rider competes, they win ribbons that correlate to specific points values. When they earn 36 points in their respective division, they qualify for post-season championship competition and move up through the divisions.
CET is comprised of both the Hunt Seat (HS) and Western (W) teams. Members may compete and tryout for the HS and/or W team. Show Level Members are chosen to ride for a specific division within IHSA (The Intercollegiate Horse Show Association). Depending on eligibility and the coach’s discretion, you may be chosen for two divisions.
CET competes in Zone V Region III. We typically have 8 horse shows per year. At these shows, riders compete on horses provided by the host team. Riders are not given any time to warm up the horse before they show. All classes are judged on the rider’s ability, not the ability of the horse. The rider will compete for an individual placement in their class, and points from these rides will go towards our overall team placing at each show. Points carry over to the next season (not including riders in the Open division). Riders may point out of their divisions and move up to the next level.
Show Level Member: Attends all meetings and club-associated events; maintains a minimum 2.0 Semester GPA for the fall and spring semesters; must be a full-time Clemson University student for both semesters; and must attend 2 lessons and homework rides weekly. These riders will be chosen to show on a show-by-show basis throughout the year based on participation in the club and performance in lessons.
