Art I
Course Description: Art 1 is a full year, 1.0 Fine Arts credit class created to provide the beginning knowledge and skills necessary to appreciate, evaluate, and create works of art. Components include commentaries, activities, and assignments that involve simple execution of artwork, writing, and reading. These introduce students to some of the significant periods and styles of art, the elements of art and the principles of design, the creative thought processes & behaviors, media, tools, and applications used by past and present-day artists.
Art II 3-D Studio Art - Ceramics
Course Description: Art II 3-D Studio Art is a full year, 1.0 Fine Arts credit class designed to further enhance the student’s technical and creative skills by focusing more on the application and interpretation of the Elements of Art and Principles of Design through three dimensional projects with a focus on ceramics. Art history and appreciation will be integrated into the curriculum as specific skills and techniques are introduced. Critical thinking skills and aesthetic perception must play an important role in the decision making process of each project. Research of current as well as famous artists will be encouraged throughout the year as a point of reference and influence on individual works.
Art III 3-D Studio Art - Ceramics
Course Description: Art III 3-D Studio Art is a full year, 1.0 Fine Arts credit class designed to further enhance the student’s technical and creative skills by focusing on the application and interpretation of the Elements of Art and Principles of Design through three dimensional projects with a focus on ceramics. Critical thinking skills and aesthetic perception must play an important role in the decision making process of each project. Research of current as well as famous artists will be encouraged throughout the year as a point of reference and influence on individual works. Development of breadth, concentration, and quality elements for an Advanced Placement (AP) portfolio will be introduced and explored.

AP 3-D Studio Art
Course Description: AP 3-D Studio Art is a full year, 1.0 Fine Arts credit class designed to further enhance the student’s technical and creative skills by focusing on the application and interpretation of the Elements of Art and Principles of Design through three dimensional projects with a focus on ceramics. Critical thinking skills and aesthetic perception must play an important role in the decision making process of each project. Research of current as well as famous artists will be encouraged throughout the year as a point of reference and influence on individual works. Development of breadth, concentration, and quality elements for an Advanced Placement (AP) portfolio will be designed, created, and submitted through College Board for college credit. All students are required to submit a portfolio of college quality.
Evaluation Policy
While talent and ability are important, the final grade will reflect the following work skills:
- Following instructions
- Class participation
- Completion of work to best of student ability
- Attitude and effort including work habits and self-discipline exhibited
- The arts are teachable and learnable skills, so keep an open mind, be patient, persist, and you WILL succeed!

Course Grades
The grade in this class will be determined by daily grades, project completion, performance on assignments, and the above evaluation policy.
