People often worry that keeping a cat indoors is cruel, but is this really the case? To begin with, indoor cats live longer. They are not exposed to the significant risks a cat faces when allowed to roam outside. Indoor cats don't suffer injuries from vehicle accidents or from being attacked by dogs or other cats. They are not exposed to viral diseases such as feline immunodeficiency virus or toxoplasmosis, a disease the cat could pass on to humans and which poses a serious risk for pregnant women. They are not exposed to poisonous plants, venomous snakes or fleas and ticks. In short, a cat which is unable to roam, is a much healthier cat.
