While learning about ecosystem, students discussed about food chain from where we moved on to food web. Students had understood food chain very well as it was a simple process, but food web being complex, students were finding it difficult to grasp the concept.
So, to understand food web and to differentiate it from food chain we decided to do an activity.
The students were divided into two groups and within their group they were asked to bring a picture of a particular animal or plant.
They pinned up these pictures on a board and taking a yarn started to create their food chains. After everyone had a turn they saw that the end product of so many food chains was a food web.
They then decided to remove a picture and could see how food web can collapse. This observation led to:
1.Food web consists of many food chains.
2.Food web shows many different paths of the relation between who feeds on who.
3.Food web is complex than food chain.
4.Removing one picture helped them understand that if one plant or animal cease to exist, one or more members within the rest of the chain could cease to exist, hence the need is to conserve our species.
Students of grade 2 PYP conducted a Chat Show for presenting their views about how they can apply 3 R’s in their life and their duty to save earth. By this chat show every student shared their views and promised to try their best to apply them in their life.
To reinforce the ongoing theme
"Who We Are "
PYP kG1 organized an activity regarding creativity. It is to help children climb their own mountains, as high as possible. No one can do more.
Our young creators made friendship banners for their friends with paper craft. The artist is not a special kind of person; rather each person is a special kind of artist and all our kids are very special artists.
“A friend accept us as we are yet helps us to be what we should”
Our budding artists of PYP KG 1
working in collaboration to learn how to work with friends and respect each other's opinions.
Kudos to all of you our buddies!
In order to have better understanding about days and months, students of Grade IV have prepared their birthday month calendar highlighting all important days and dates of that particular month.
This activity has helped them to get more clarity in reading of calendar.
The importance of social and cultural activities is preparing students for real life and strengthening their personal skills. Culture can be defined as the arts as well as the intangible shared beliefs, values and practices of a community. Students participated in an activity “How different we look, how united we are” by dressing up in different attires and preparing special food items according to different state cultures.
