The Virtual Exhibition was organized since the Covid-19 has changed the world and this might be the new normal. It was an opportunity to explore the potentials of our young learners to evolve ideas, so that they can showcase their skill as responsible citizens and be prepared to accept such unexpected challenges. It was wonderful to watch them utilize their learning from kindergarten onwards to make it an interesting event of their student life.
Keeping with the very important aspect of PYP, this exhibition included Inquiry Cycle, where they learnt to collect ideas and material by discussing with their peers and mentors. Their active participation and enthusiasm to become the group leaders indicated that they would be the future leaders and pioneers with good communication skills, which consequently will develop their skills to research and think.
The students under the guidance of their Home Room Teacher, seniors and by surfing the internet learnt about the skill of organizing an exhibition. This made them curious and creative and helped them to keep an open-mind to different ideas and viewpoints.
The grade 5 was given two themes, ‘How We Express Ourselves’ and ‘How the World Works’ to choose from. It was interesting to see that the students chose, ‘How we Express Ourselves’ as the theme for the exhibition but they also decided to include the working models of simple machines from the theme, ‘How the World Works’. The working models brought out their skill of thinking and self-management that in turn developed their confidence and creativity.
It was appreciable that students had expressed themselves not only through art and dance forms but also via the languages they were learning- Hindi, English, Punjabi and French, which helped them to become Knowledgeable.
The world is becoming a global village and no one can deny that media is playing a vital role to keep us in touch with any corner of this planet. One example is how the world is united to fight against the pandemic Covid-19. We are able to continue our routine activities in any field like online classes, work from home, digitalization of money, the 24 × 7 entertainment through T.V., Radio and Social media, otherwise such a long period of lockdown would have played havoc in this period of stress. The fourth pillar of democracy has proved that it is an essential part of our life and helped us to have positivity in our lives.
Taking up the challenge of Virtual Exhibition for the first time without any prior planning made us to do the exploratory work and the profiles, skills and attitudes developed during the PYP journey provided required support and help. It was learning with fun and gave an understanding of the power of today’s technology.
