News
News from CIEP Japan
On November 9, Gifu Prefecture, located in central Japan, hosted the “3rd Intercollegiate Petanque Tournament.” The city of Gifu, where the tournament was held, is known as the historic city where Oda Nobunaga, a famous 16th-century warlord, established his castle during his conquest of the country.
This year, 108 students from 23 universities in Japan, China, and France participated. During the opening ceremony, video messages from Claude Azéma, President of the WPBF, and Claude Raluy, Président of the CIEP, were shown, followed by a speech by Takeshi Mochizuki, member of the CIEP Japan Steering Committee.
Until recently, pétanque in Japan suffered from an image as a “sport for seniors.”
But thanks to the success of this student tournament supported by the CIEP, interest in pétanque is growing rapidly among the younger generations.

Players' Camp at the CIEP in Sergines
This players' camp had some difficult moments at times, as the laughter was endless, especially during the posture exercises. This group was able to combine these moments with the seriousness of the training. They came from Luxembourg, France, and Vietnam, and the progress was evident over the four days of the camp. Thu Vu, a Sea Games champion and third-place finisher at a World Championship, joined us with Claude Azéma for two days to train and assimilate the CIEP method for coaching players in her home country.
Note her concentration before each throw, ensuring she internalized the advice given.
Claude Azéma handed out camp certificates, much to the delight of the participants, who took souvenir photos.
Most of these players have already decided to return next year by forming a group to share a common passion and moments of friendship.
2025 Rallye Petanque in Courlon-sur-Yonne
On 4 October, numerous pétanque players took part in the 26th Rallye Pétanque in Courlon sur Yonne.
The municipality's involvement was noteworthy. Mayor Christina Randget and her deputies came to set up the catering area, a fine example of a municipal team dedicated to the success of events organised in its territory.
The friendly visit of many elected officials gave the event a spirit of sharing, as pétanque is indeed a vehicle for social bonding.
Mr Grégory Dorte, President of the Departmental Council, wanted to try his hand at a shooting workshop and, after knocking down the jacket, surprised us with his efficiency on the spot.
The President of the Departmental Committee FFPJP 89, Philippe Gherardini, and Vice-President Laurent Chapotot kindly joined the CIEP team, as they do every year, to run workshops and a tombola. The goal-shooting and shooting workshops were enjoyed by all, despite a rainy morning that was more than compensated for by a sunny afternoon.
An awards ceremony with all participants at 6 p.m., one of the key features of this concept, brought the day to a close and gave us something to look forward to next year.
A big thank you to everyone, players, organisers and visitors alike...

The CIEP in Kazakhstan
8 days – over 50 hours of training in Kazakhstan. CIEP coaches: David Nouraud and Ptr Fuksa
For the fourth time, CIEP is holding a pétanque training camp in Almaty, Kazakhstan. This time, there were four of the best girls and four of the best boys. On the courts, it was over 30 degrees, surrounded by mountains with snow on their peaks. Petanque players are also curling players in winter. Training in Kazakhstan is quite specific. The players are very disciplined, they learn quickly and memorise the advice given to them rapidly. They behave impeccably on the field and demonstrate exemplary team spirit. During training matches, they communicate, they are serious, they automatically position themselves where they need to be, and they don't forget to mark the goal or the circle.
It is no coincidence that at the 2024 World Championships in Benin ,the women's team qualified among the top 16 even though the players only had a few months of experience in pétanque, notably during two CIEP training courses.
The cooperation between the CIEP and the Kazakhstan Federation is bearing fruit, and it is a real pleasure to be part of this adventure, both on a human and sporting level.

THE N°56 of PLANÈTE BOULES has just been published
Two major events will mark this off-season of pétanquiste, both scheduled for December. On the sporting field first of all, with the Men's Triples and Precision Shooting World Championships which will be held in Dijon, from 5 to 8 December. Then in the ballot box, 15 days later (20-21 December), just before Christmas, with the FFPJP Congress to be held in Belfort (90), with the election of the new federal team and the appointment of the President for the next four years.
The Men's Triples World Championships - the queen event of the discipline on the international scene - are back on French soil: 30 years after Clermont-Ferrand, still in everyone's memories, Montpellier in 1997, then the Grenoble triptych (2002 - 2004 - 2006) and finally Marseille in 2012. They will take up residence this year in the majestic setting of the Zénith de Dijon, a large performance hall where many world-famous artists have performed, converted for the occasion into a petanque arena.
David Le Dantec, head of the France Senior Men's Collective, unveiled on September 12, a French selection that is actually unsurprising, with three executives, Philippe Suchaud, Henri Lacroix and Dylan Rocher. The only uncertainty lay in the choice of the "4th man", it is Jean Feltain, author of a great 2024 season, who was selected, to the detriment of Robineau, Sarrio or Bonetto.
France will set out to regain the rainbow title, which eluded them two years ago in Benin, which saw Thailand's 2nd title in this event. In the Precision Shooting, Dylan Rocher will be the favourite to retain his title.

Handi-Petanque: An Inclusive and Exciting Game
Handi-petanque is an adapted version of the famous game of petanque, specially designed to be accessible to people with disabilities. This inclusive sport allows everyone, regardless of their mobility level, to participate and enjoy the game of boules. It aims to promote inclusion, equality, and the joy of playing together by adapting the rules and equipment to meet the specific needs of players.
To make it accessible to everyone, several adaptations can be implemented, starting with modified playing fields that can be made more accessible, with flat surfaces and access points facilitating wheelchair mobility. Adapted equipment, such as lighter boules or gripping devices, may also be provided to help players throw the boules easily. The rules can also be adjusted to accommodate the players' abilities, such as the throwing distance or the number of boules per player.
Of course, handi-petanque offers many benefits to participants: social inclusion, improved mobility, mental well-being, and skill development. It is a practice dear to the Comité Départemental de l’Yonne (FFPJP) that organizes the event.
