Mission and Values of gMAC
Global Majority Achievement Community (gMAC), formerly known as MAC, is dedicated to cultivating open-minded students among all students at Columbia High School. Through a thoughtful selection process, semester-based goals, and intentional programming, we strive to promote academic achievement, social growth, and cultural pride. Our mission is to empower students to recognize their potential, embrace their identities, and step confidently into leadership roles within their school and community. gMAC began in 2010, and has worked dilligently to bridge the achivement gap within CHS.
We believe leadership is not only about achievement but also about service, resilience, and responsibility. gMAC nurtures leaders who are prepared to uplift others, challenge themselves, and contribute to lasting change both inside and outside the classroom.
gMAC takes pride in its student-led development and activities, guided with care and support by our founding leader, Mrs. Marcia Hicks. We foster an environment where students can grow, thrive, and express their potential. We value and encourage the following qualities in our students:
Equity – ensuring fairness and opportunity for all by addressing real-world issues.
Community & Collaboration – building strong, supportive connections and working together toward shared goals.
Advocacy & Justice – speaking truth to power and standing up for what is right.
Empowerment – cultivating confidence and self-determination in every student leader.
Growth Mindset – embracing challenges, learning from setbacks, and striving for continuous improvement.
Integrity – leading with honesty, accountability, and authenticity.
Cultural Pride & Identity – celebrating and affirming the richness of Black and Latinx heritage as a source of strength.
Service & Responsibility – giving back to peers, the school, and the broader community through action.
Excellence – striving for the highest standards in academics, leadership, and character.
