I remember a Dartmouth friend saying "If you can't play with math, then you play with words" regarding writing dissertations and papers. I like playing with both ;)
Other future mixed extracurricular/academic ideas:
Badminton math models. Scheduling. Staffing/Roster (for a team a player can play only play in 2 events)/Game theory/Heuristics. So many possibilities...
Trying to get Saeed L. to build a soccer/FIFA System Dynamics econ model
Past:
I attended events that the Korean, Japanese, Iranian, Muslim, Christian Bible Fellowship, Hispanic and International Student Council, Global Humanitarian Alliance, Green Team, etc. student officers organized. I joined those clubs too but I was not very active so I did not list them below. I like attending events...especially if there will be food.
During my terms on the Graduate Student Government, we did a lot. As Sina, the first GSG President I served under, said "Let's put GSG on the map!"
Planned cocktail parties (100-200) people
I also helped plan the Vietnamese Lunar New Year shows around 200 people.
My birthday party at Jillian's Worcester (now closed) was also about 100 people. I like playing pool/billiards.
Served on various committees.
Library/IT one in which we tested various Learning Management Software (LMS) and chose Canvas
Coordinated with various WPI Offices (e.g. Multicultural, Student Activities) to sponsor their events
Organized weekly Wednesday socials for my stint as VP of Social Events
Created themed socials or sponsored orgs for the theme for the month (e.g. Hispanic Heritage Month, LGBTQ + Month, etc.)
Ordered food, booked the event location, and hosted the events that I could
One time we had a talent show. I think I called it the Winter Showcase
Established more health privileges for WPI grad students at WPI Health Services
Created documents recommended places to eat, health services in the Worcester area, etc. for students
I have trouble remembering some of what I did during my second term and parts of my first term. I had to prepare for my PhD quals, proposal defense, and had personal (depression or burnout?) and family health problems during my terms
Playing badminton at Dartmouth and Colby-Sawyer also helped bring me out of depression while in the Upper Valley. I should have visited Karim and others at iSee Systems more. They are very nice and I call them the "Dream Team" because Karim sounds like Kareem and basketball is my favorite sport. I jammed my finger playing basketball (attempting a steal. I like helping my teammates while I am an off-ball defender when we play zone) with the Norwich, VT locals. If that didn't happen, then I would have gotten to know them more. So many nice folks in the Upper Valley. I also tried to learn how to swim properly up there but then moved back to Massachusetts due to mental health issues before I could learn better technique.
Softball (my best sport when I was younger. I am allergic/sensitive to pollen and hate the cold. I prefer to stay indoors in spring but softball was fun/relaxing...especially in summer!):
Fielding: Preferably CF or 1st Base. I have played every position but have trouble making the throw from 3rd and short...something happened to me after I learned how to pitch slingshot. I also really dislike pitching and catching but do what is needed. I also theorize that playing badminton and having to hold onto the racket effected me mentally/my muscle memory.
Batting: Usually 1st, 2nd or last in the lineup. I am good at bunting/being patient (i.e. taking the first pitch and listening to my coaches)/getting on base.
Base running: I love stealing. I got thrown out/tagged out...maybe 2-3 times in my career? I don't remember how many bases I stole. It was a lot. They kept stats on this somewhere.
Unofficially, I coached softball a few times in the Upper Valley...I am thinking of officially coaching softball at some point here in the Houston area. I need to buy new sliding shorts in order to play. Getting old and gaining weight. I like good food...

I don't remember my Diamondback coaches using an indicator so I think we didn't have one. Had to remember the signs. It was very secret. Senior Babe Ruth League at South Lawrence West park. We were very hated. Also used to wear black jerseys. It was too hot.
Thankfully, when I caught for the Royals, we wore royal blue. Not black. I hated wearing all that equipment and taking it off whenever I had to bat /* I played every fielding position except 3rd base coach that year. I got a lot of action/outs as catcher but I hated it. My dad hated that I was catcher too. He got into an argument with my coach. They had to move me after a few games at that position. */ Also, the helmet messed up my hair. I typically don't wear hats for a reason people. CT gets terrible hat hair, is high maintenance, and hates the heat (but I did like the Miami Heat when Shaq, Bosh, and Lebron were on it). I am still getting used to the Houston heat. I prefer visors or sunglasses.
I don't remember signs for this team. I had to bunt every time and steal every base (but be picky about when I steal home).
Coach tried to teach me how to lefty slap but that was too much movement (dynamics!) for me. I prefer just watching Caitlin Lowe and Natasha Watley do it. Coach taught me so much. I was MVP that year. I feel bad that I forgot his name and his wife's name. They were awesome.
