Where every person can become an open door to Jesus Christ.
The Catholic Hospitality Training Institute exists to empower parishes for the work of evangelization. From transforming the environment of the parish office to using the right words when interacting with guests and parishioners, we equip staff members to make the parish an irresistible welcoming environment. Simply, we empower church employees to share Jesus Christ.
Parish, school, and diocesan support staff have a unique capacity to evangelize. Often times the first 3 minutes a visitor spends with the person of first contact in the parish decides whether they will stay at the parish or leave.
Through our unique one day hospitality training your first contact staff, such as administrative assistants, business managers, custodians, ushers, principals, Christian charity coordinators, and event planners will be evangelized and prepared to receive others in the name of Jesus Christ. Additionally, the Catholic Hospitality Training Institute provides ongoing training and materials that can be shared with the entire staff.
“Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.” Hebrews 13:2

Catholic Things To DoVolunteering is a great way to build confidence, competence, connections and community”. It helps to develop interpersonal and leadership skills in an organization besides networking with people from all backgrounds. By being a volunteer you are learning powerful skills that you can transfer to future employment.
Volunteering is often seen as a selfless act; a person gives their time, skills, experience, and passion to help others, without expecting anything in return. Initially, you have a mentor and later on, you become a mentor to others. And while volunteering is a form of service, many volunteers will tell you that “you get more than you give”. From opportunities to develop new skills, to finding deep and meaningful personal connections, the magic of volunteering is that it creates social and economic value for all.

“Volunteering is an opportunity to connect with your community to create a positive impact.” (Volunteer Alberta)
In the Church, every baptized person is called to holiness and ministry. Volunteering in parish ministries is a part of Christian discipleship. Volunteering has the following benefits:
Generosity: It’s an opportunity to give back, pay it forward, or help others, which in turn can be fulfilling for you.
Passion: It’s a way to make a difference about something you care about.
Resourcefulness: It’s an opportunity to accomplish things in your community that otherwise wouldn’t get done.
Connection: It’s a great way to meet new people and become part of a community.
Belonging: It can help to improve your language skills and get acquainted with a new culture.
Health: Volunteering has been shown to improve overall health and wellbeing.
Ambition: It builds your résumé and offers great work experience. Learning: It can offer new knowledge and skills.
Adventure: It’s a chance to try something new or different.
Enjoyment: It can be a lot of fun!
Whether it's in the secular or faith community, volunteers are invaluable to building society. For the Christian, it's also an opportunity to be a good steward of God-given gifts. If you are thinking about how you can participate in this call, please call the parish office or contact the Parish Volunteer Coordinator, Marie - 780.463.8646, ext. 2233 to learn more.

Called to Protect is an abuse prevention training program designed for all clergy, staff and lay volunteers within our Archdiocese. Through two videos and group discussion, participants learn tools to identify inappropriate behaviours, methods to report potential abuse and best practices in ministering safely to the young and vulnerable. Everyone involved in any type of ministry within parishes is asked to attend this 2.5 hour session. You may attend any session offered throughout the Archdiocese, but ensure that you register the day you attend and contact your parish office to inform them of the date and location that you took the course.
This workshop is intended for adults only. The material is highly sensitive and is not meant for children under 18 years of age. Dates are available from time to time at parishes in the city. Please go to the Archdiocesan calendar to view the calendar : http://caedm.ca/CalledToProtectCalendar.aspx To read Archbishop Smith’s letter to the parishioners of the Catholic Archdiocese of Edmonton about Safe Environments and Abuse Prevention go to http://caedm.ca/protect.
Are you a volunteer, 18 years or older, who attended Called to Protect training more than a year ago? If you have not yet completed the online refresher course, please contact your Parish Volunteer Coordinator for instruction on how to complete the online refresher training “The Praesidium Safety Equation.” This training is part of the archdiocesan commitment to protect children, youth, vulnerable persons, and those who minister to them through the development and implementation of screening measures and ongoing training in abuse prevention. Is the church losing its young people because parents never taught their children that it was important?
That applies across the board. It applies to family worship, and it also applies to whether you are in church every Sunday and what priority you demonstrate to your children regarding Sunday Mass.
If there is a hockey game, do you skip church or do you find a Mass at another time?
If the sun shines and their friends are going to the beach, do you decide to skip church and go to the beach?
You can easily send signals to your children that church is not important.
Make Sunday Mass top priority in your family.
Catholic Things To DoVolunteering and its Surprising Benefits
Volunteering can be a thankless job. There is:
No appreciation
No gratitude
No reward or recognition
We volunteer because we are selfless, self-sacrificing, self-denying, generous, charitable, altruistic, public-spirited people of faith. It strengthens relationships and builds community. It is good for your mind and body and brings fun and fulfillment to your life.
One thing to remember - There is joy of giving: The More you give, the More you Receive.
True joy lies in the act of giving without an expectation of receiving something in return.
Doing kind things for strangers helps build co-operation, trust and a sense of safety in our communities.
3 hats of leadership
As a church leader, you wear lots of hats and juggle a full workload.
CHRISTIAN STEWARDSHIP: Stewardship is part of a complete life-style. It is a life of total accountability & responsibility. How responsible am I in sharing my gifts of time, talent and treasure?
From the Acts of the Apostles we hear it proclaimed that many “signs and wonders” were performed in public by Christ’s followers, a demonstration that produced two results. First, the people of Jerusalem outside the Christian community were awed by what the disciples were performing. And in the midst of all this amazement, many were being converted.
Good stewards know of the evangelizing power emanating from their daily acts of love, compassion, kindness and generosity. They believe that if they stay focused on Christ each day, every act has the power to transform a broken world. What “signs and wonders” will we perform today?
Stewardship Corner
“Lord, will only a few people be saved?” Jesus offers only a simple reply: Strive to enter through the narrow gate. Many will try to enter and will not be able. Good stewards know there is only one, narrow gate. Not everything will fit. This narrow gate has no room for our accomplishments. No room for our money. No room for our possessions. No room for anything else but those who’ve been good stewards of the Gospel. We can’t custom build our own gates either. There is only one, narrow gate that happens to be open for a time, but for how long? What is our plan of action to get through that gate?
STEWARDSHIP : TIME TALENT TREASURE
Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.
“As each one has received a gift, use it to serve one another as good stewards of God’s varied grace.” (Peter 4:10)
Parish Vitality & Stewardship
A steward is someone who receives God’s gifts gratefully, develops those gifts responsibly, shares those gifts lovingly in justice with others, and makes a return with interest to the Lord.
As such, the goal of parish vitality and stewardship is to help increase the engagement of everyone in the life of their parish as stewards, inviting us all to become more involved in the myriad of different ways to serve one another for the glory of God.
The Spirituality of Stewardship
The goal of stewardship is to increase the engagement of everyone in the life of their parish, inviting us all to become more involved in the myriad of different ways to serve others.
Generosity Encouraged
Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. - 2 Corinthians 9:6–8
“Beloved, you do faithfully whatever you do for the friends, even though they are strangers to you.” (3 John 1:5a)
“God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.” Isaiah 32:8
