Many renewals/revivals have resulted in major societal change either simply because of the transformation of people (e.g. huge declines in alcohol consumption) or because those who have discovered a closer relationship with God have been motivated by the Holy Spirit to work for reforms that benefit those who suffer. Love of God and love of neighbour go hand-in-hand.
We have only to consider:
The care shown by the early Christians to abandoned babies, plague sufferers, women, children, slaves...
The establishment of hospitals, universities, and other institutions designed to help those in need and benefit people.
Numerous great Christian reformers.
