Opening sequence seems to just be an unrelated mission. Unusual how the jet pack was just sitting and waiting for him, but he probably had stashed it prior. Obscured shadows - first title sequence with multiple women and without scenes from the movie playing I believe. Pretty tame compared to later entries. I just finished Thunderball the novel and enjoyed it, so I’m wondering if that will improve my ranking of the movie this time around. Colonel BOuvaur was SPECTRE #6- Fairly in line with the novel up to the point of the traction machine. I must be picturing the actor from Never say never again, the unofficial remake for Count Lippe though. Count lip doesn’t appear to have burns or anything from his encounter with Bond. Also, the Angelo being a double instead of just being the real one getting killed is odd.Follows novel pretty well up to point of stealing atomic weapons and the crash landing, other than using the double for angelo (derval)- probably to avoid having to go into the backstory present in the novel. Paula- don’t remember her from the novel. I like Domino in the movie, she seems similar to the novel version at first anyway. Youthful, smart but also somewhat naive. Bond meets Emilio in casino this time, instead of with Felix on the yacht. Though the dialogue is similar. I like that Felix does make an appearance, though I’m still more fond of the actor playing him in the Roger Moore, and License To Kill era. Don’t remember Fiona Volpe in the novel either. Bond and Felix hunting in the helicopter is pretty similar to the novel. The attack on palmeira seems put in for the sake of the movie, as I don’t recall that from the novel either. I recall from the special features that the shark actually passed by sean connery out of the container so his look of fear was real. Quick reflexes putting Fiona in front of the bullet. Sea egg spines in her foot- like the novel (Domino). The dialogue from that scene matches the novel era closely. Though, I don’t think bond shoots the guy with harpoon in novel. Bond infiltrates largo’s dive team, and is caught. Domino caught on disco with the camera geiger counter is similar. And Largo’s torture of her. Diving battle is set up more by parachuting than the submarine part. Would have been cool to see the training and everything from the novel. Bond isn’t part of the dive team in the movie, and gets the jet propelled scuba gear as an advantage he didn’t have in the book. The underwater battle used to be boring to me, but after reading the novel, I’m a bit more entertained by it this time. Very complicated to film I imagine too. This one was much more enjoyable after reading the novel and following the plot a bit more. Not the best Connery, but definitely better than YOLT and Diamonds I’d say now.
