Year 1 Internship
My position was Main Camera Systems and Map Asset Setup
I was also the Assistant Project Lead for the Interns. I have had some experience in team management through my previous employment and have also worked in a live production environment when I was with Atlantis Eduplus. I offered to fill this position to support our intern Project Lead as he grew into the Lead role. This also allowed me to be a bridge for my fellow first years and the company environment allowing them a point of contact for questions they had that they were familiar with and comefortable approaching as they acclimated to a business production environment.
I was responsible with setting up the cinemachine camera system in Unity
I created the basic audio system for our interactive items
I set up the defined locations on our map and made them interactive drivers for our cinemachine system
I set up the vessel objects we were provided to function as interactable for our cinemachine system, to interact with each other as proximity triggers, and with the locations to pass data to and from each other to up each's information popups
I aided the UIUX team to get the location buttons also driving the Cinemachine camera system to move to the selected locations like when the locations were clicked.
I created a pathing system for simulated movement data for vessels (the red node paths in the image below) and a trail system on the vessels which shows the path they have taken as they move
Created a button from the Maple Leaf icon to bring up a popup explaining the movement controls to enhanse new user experience this also auto displays on start
Audio was added to all interactables in order to drive user engagement through audio feedback
The vessels had colliders added to them allowing them to notify each other when they were too close throwing a specialized warning sound, an orange highlight and an output messsagewhile vessels are in close proximity
I wrote code that initalized some processes so that they would be automatically added to the game objects when the simulation begins so they do not need to be added manually in the inspector. For example the Audio System adds an audio source and the volume slider reference, to the game objects that are interactable, through the code itself
There were other items added through the inspector so they could be custom. For example the audio clip that the Object called to for its sound clip, allowing each object to be assigned a unique sound from the audio library
I also felt it was important to add a document folder in the project assets to provide documentation on the processes to create and set up the interactive assets found both in .doc and .pdf formats for ease of use. this ensures the instructions go with the project and do not get potentially lost once our temp onedrives are removed after the internship.
