Teaching Philosophy Statement
I believe physical education should be a space where all students feel included, supported, and challenged to grow both physically and personally. I believe in giving my students the opportunity to thrive, regardless of their background, ability, or learning style. Physical education is more than teaching movement skills, it is a type of education that fosters critical thinking, collaboration, and self-confidence. These are crucial skills for well-being.
Goals for Student Learning
I want my students to develop knowledge, skills, and attitudes across the physical, cognitive, and emotional domains. My students will master physical skills, but more importantly, I want them to understand the value of teamwork, perseverance, and respect for others. I will equip students with the tools they need to take ownership of their own health and fitness in an effort to givie them the confidence to lead active and healthy lives beyond school.
Enactment of Goals
As a physical educator, I will take a student-centered approach to teaching. I believe that every student learns differently. My priority is to build relationships with my students so I can better understand how they learn. My teaching methods are adaptive to meet the student’s needs. I use a variety of approaches such as task-based learning, guided discovery, and real-time feedback to ensure each student is challenged. I will create a dynamic and engaging learning environment where students are encouraged to push themselves while feeling supported by both myself and their peers.
Assessment of Goals
Assessment is an essential part of my teaching philosophy. I will use a combination of formative assessments, such as exit slips, checklists, and peer evaluations, to gauge student progress and provide real-time feedback. This feedback will help me adjust my teaching methods and allow students to reflect on their own performance. I believe that with these assessments, I can make sure that students are developing physical skills and growing in their ability to set personal goals, reflect on their progress, and improve over time.
Creating an Inclusive Learning Environment
In my classroom, I will create an inclusive environment where every student feels seen, valued, and heard. I will be mindful of the diverse identities and experiences my students bring, from race and gender to ability and socio-economic background. I believe that acknowledging these differences and celebrating them is key to creating a positive learning environment. I will adapt my lessons to teach different learning styles. My job is to ensure that every student has the opportunity to succeed.
Conclusion
My teaching philosophy centers around inclusion, growth, and connection. By building a rapport with my students, I will be better equipped to understand their individual needs and adjust my teaching accordingly. I believe that physical education should be more than just learning how to move, it should be an experience that helps students develop the confidence, skills, and mindset to succeed in all areas of their lives. My goal is to create a classroom where students are challenged, supported, and ultimately empowered to become lifelong learners and leaders.
