The orphanage, Chisomo Orphanage and Elderly (CO&E) was founded in 2017 as a charitable organization by Mr Benard Chikhasu with the aim of lifting the lives of orphaned kids and elderly living in Msundwe - Lilongwe Malawi Africa. Mr Chikhasu founded the Orphanage when he was a third year student at African Bible College Malawi Campus. When he went to Msundwe to visit he was so shocked when he learnt that kids who were orphans were not going to school because they were lacking some basic needs and others were living with there aged grandmothers. Some kids were working in tobacco farms and others were begging for food for survival. When Mr Chikhasu saw this he thought of doing something to help these orphaned kids to go back to school and support them, thus, he founded the Chisomo Orphanage and Elderly.

CO&E is located in Chinkhunda village in Traditional Authority Kalolo in Msundwe, Lilongwe, Malawi.  CO&E works in two Senior Chief Groups, two Chief Groups and nineteen villages. Currently we are working with seventy five orphans (75) and fifty-eight (58) elders that are coming from the nineteen villages (19). The vision of CO&E is to implement self-sufficient, sustainable and incremental projects to help orphans and elderly. The mission is to help and care for orphans and elderly for the benefit of the communities they are coming from.

When our founder saw how the kids were suffering he met the chiefs in Msundwe to have a way of helping the orphaned kids and when the meeting was held in August, 2017, the chiefs agreed to establish an Orphanage to bring all the kids together and start mentoring them and helping them with basic needs. 

We are a Christian based Organization, our values, methodologies are based on Christianity. Our guiding motto is Mark 16:15 “Go into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature”. CO&E ministers to all the people through the Word of God.

3. Has a single parent

4. Has no parents

5. Live with their grandparents

We care for Elderly people who are:

1. Aged

2. victims of abuse

3. caring orphans

4. needy ones
