This course examines the interrelationship among the physical, cognitive, and psychosocial growth and development of individuals from conception through adolescence. Emphasis is placed on positive relationships with family members, peers, and other significant individuals. Topics include theories and philosophies of human development and cross-cultural patterns. Students observe children and educational programs. This course is a core requirement for the State of California Child Development Permit and the State of California Community Care Licensing, Title XXII.

Why do high school students stay up all night and sleep all day? This class will help you find the answers and you will discover how you can help children become successful adults.

Your textbook for this course is an Open Education Resources (OER) textbook written by ECE Department faculty at College of the Canyons. You will find a link to the textbook in the Modules in our Canvas Course.
A reliable computer is recommended for this course since it is fully online.
Mesa College provides a limited number of computers for loan. You can request a laptop check out using the google form Mesa Resources for Student Check Out.

Because this a fully online class, it is expected that you have basic familiarity with computer terms and use.
Attending an online course is achieved by participating in the course, contributing to discussions, asking questions, proposing answers, submitting assignments, and collaborating with your peers. You'll have many opportunities to participate in the coming weeks, but remember that simply logging onto Canvas does not count as participation. You must complete assignments located in the modules each week to show your attendance. Assignments submitted must be on topic and related to the course content.
Per the San Diego Community College District:
It is the student’s responsibility to drop all classes in which he/she is no longer participating.
It is the instructor’s discretion to withdraw a student after the add/drop deadline (6/29/22) due to excessive absences.
Students who remain enrolled in a class beyond the published withdrawal deadline (7/22/22), will receive an evaluative letter grade in this class (A, B, C, D, F).
Make sure you login and begin the coursework on the first day of class. Complete your initial post to the discussion no later than Saturday, June 25. This action lets me know you want to stay in the course.
Note: You can be dropped from the course after missing 1 (one) week's worth of class material. This is the equivalent of not submitting anything online for a period of 7 (seven) days.
