Wilhelm Guldbrand started his path in martial arts during his training to become an officer within the Swedish army in 1975. His first sensei was Tamas Weber who kept his dojo in the center of Stockholm, the capital of Sweden. Wilhelm became a first lieutenant of the Northern dragoons (Northern rangers) in 1976. Five years later he was stationed in the small town of Arvidsjaur where he started a karate club to the benefit of interested people.
In 1985 the club participated in a training camp held by Soke Shugo Kuniba in the dojo of Tamas Weber. Since then the course have been straight. It is to follow the path of Soke Kuniba, today lead by Soke William H Price within the organization Chikubu kai.
Wilhelm has during his time as budoka focused on karate- and goshindo. Mind, body and teqnique is at it’s peak practicing Budo, from goshindo, karatedo, kobudo and iaido. The content is a challenge to master and a constant joy for any budoka with the right spirit. To follow the path to be prepared for anything at any time.
During the decade of the 1990’s Wilhelm was for six years elected at the board of the Karate Section of the Swedish Budo Federation. He also had official capacities during competitions, as referee of kumite and kata. He has also been cofounder of:
· Arvidsjaur Sanshin Kan karate club. Later on renamed to Arvidsjaur Seishin kai karate association (non profit association).
· Norrbottens Budo Federation, a regional part in the north of Sweden of the Swedish Budo Federation.
· Umeå Seishin Kai Karate Assosiation (non profit association). Renamed to Kuniba kai and finaly to Chikubu Kai.
Due to professional reasons Wilhelm had to transfer responsibilities to his senior student, Johan Backteman, hanshi and hombucho of the European Chikubu Kai. Johan has driven the development both in Europe and other very qualified and now affiliated countries forward to the benefit of expanding the organization internationally.
