Biography
Chiara Bisagni has devoted her research to aerospace composite structures since her PhD. She has earned her Master degree in Aeronautical Engineering and her PhD in Aerospace Engineering at the Politecnico di Milano (POLIMI), where she subsequently became an Assistant and Associate Professor in aerospace structures. She was a Visiting Associate Professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) thanks to a Fulbright Fellowship. Then, she was Full Professor at the University of California San Diego in the US, before moving to the Delft University of Technology, where she was professor from 2015 to end of March 2023.
Since April 2023 Chiara Bisagni is Professor at the Politecnico di Milano, Department of Aerospace Science and Technology, and Guest Professor at the Delft University of Technology, Faculty of Aerospace Engineering.
In 2021 she was elected AIAA Fellow. In 2022, she was knighted in the Order of the Star of Italy. In 2023, Chiara Bisagni received an ERC Advanced Grant: NABUCCO.

Research Group Vision
The vision of the research group is to develop new design, analysis and testing methodologies for composite structures that can be used for the next generation of aircraft and space vehicles. We are exploring new methods for design of composite structures combining numerical and analytical tools with a reduced number of experimental tests. In particular, we investigate aerospace composite structures considering different aspects that span from buckling, post-buckling, and crashworthiness, to fatigue, damage tolerance and optimization, for aeronautical and space applications.
Research in the group embraces both the theory and the applications perspectives. The group is working in European projects, as well as in US funded projects. We are also collaborating with the European Space Agency, NASA Langley Research Center and NASA Marshall Space Flight Center.
The group provides an open, international and diverse environment, to help each member to achieve the best, to be lifetime learner, and to fulfill the professional goals in academia and industry.
