As it is with many schools in Africa and other third world countries, there is always a lack of funding and as a result, the schools never have enough supplies and food for all of the children in attendance. Unfortunately this is the case for all of the Cheti schools too. Zuma dedicates his life and money to running his schools. He also relies on the generosity of volunteers and other donations to make the funds go that little bit further to invest in bigger necessities, such as water tanks or bunk beds for the orphanage.

To give you an idea of how much just a little bit of money can buy in Arusha. In Tanzania, the largest not in their currency is 10,000tsh which is approximately $6AUD/$4.50USD. At the local market a pack of 12 pencils cost around 800tsh and an eraser costs 300tsh.

The schools are in constant needs of supplies, such as pencils, rulers, erasers, pencil sharpeners, books, text books etc. In each classroom there are 30 to 45 students and only 5 rulers, 3 pieces of rubber (a whole rubber is a luxury) and no spare pencils to go around. So any small donation would help to buy these necessary supplies.

In the past, funds raised by volunteers have helped by land to expand the schools, build classrooms, purchase sports equipment or resources for physics and chemistry labs (which are for the secondary school students at Cheti 5)!
