Cheti 7 is Zuma's latest endeavour to provide an education to all the children he can reach.
Cheti 7 is located approximately 17 kilometers from the centre of Arusha in homelands populated by Maasai people. The location of Cheti 7 is crucial to the ability of these Maasai communities to access education as they cannot easily make the journey to a school in Arusha: it is over an hour by motorbike, which is very expensive and not easily accessible, or it would take over three hours to walk.
Having access to a school in this area will be life changing for the Maasai children and will contribute the long term well-being and prosperity of their families. If they choose to, Cheti 7 students may be able to attend secondary school and, from there, integrate more fully into modern Tanzanian society.
Zuma's vision for Cheti 7 is to be able to provide an education for the local Maasai children in this remote area. As with all the students in his care, Zuma hopes their access to education will provide them with opportunity to learn and broaden their horizons, leading to a brighter future for themselves, their families and for Tanzania.
Cheti 7 is not yet operational. Zuma hopes to open the school in time for the 2019 year but, as of November 2018, the school is still lacking some basic but essential facilities.
Thanks to many generous people in the Go Fund Me community and the Helensburgh Lions Club (NSW, Australia), money to pay for the doors and windows has already been raised .
To complete the building and eqip the school with basic educational supplies, more funds need to be raised. Washrooms, water tanks and tables and chairs are still needed before the school will be able to open.
After being a Cheti School for just over a month, Zuma, the children and the teachers have all had a major impact on my life. After talking with Zuma, I have decided to sponsor Cheti 7 and help Zuma with this project. I am going to be making semesterly donations to help pay for the teachers and cooks wages, to buy much needed school supplies and help with the sponsoring of children's education costs.
