Zuma Mtuy was born and raised in Tanzania. As a young boy he was abandoned by his mother and, as a result, was unable to receive a proper education. He gained a basic education during his late teen years and realised the importance of children getting an education - "knowledge is power".
Zuma has dedicated his whole adult life to establishing schools in and around Arusha, providing an education to as many children as possible. He uses his own money and that from donated by volunteers to build and keep these schools running. He also personally sponors many of the children whose families can't afford to keep them in school all year round.
He is such a humble and genuinley kind human being.
I am Maeve Turner and I am a young woman from the South Coast of New South Wales, Australia. I have always been very passionate about the rights of human and animals, social justice and the power of education.
As part of my gap year before going to university in 2019, I travelled to Africa to volunteer for eight weeks. Six of those eight weeks were spent in Arusha, Tanzania at Cheti School.
I was inspired by Zuma and his vision for the children in his care. I could see his passion and commitment reflected in the Cheti teaching staff and the effects of their dedication was easy to see in the enthusiam and love of learning in each of the children at Cheti.
As someone who comes from a country where a quailty education is largely taken for granted, it is a privilege to be able to support Zuma's work in bringing education and opportunity to the children of Cheti.
