This is the running total of biweekly USCF-rated chess events held on Friday nights at UWM by the Chess Club. These are two games with time controls of 45 minutes with a five-second delay. The final biweekly USCF-rated event is run with four games with time controls of 30 minutes, no delay.
The scoring works as follows. Players earn a score each night for the results of the rounds they played (wins/draws/losses/byes). If a player plays the Open Section on a given night, the amount added to their cumulative score is twice the score they earned on that night. If the player plays the Reserve Section, the amount added to their cumulative score is 1.75 times the score earned on that night as the Reserve Section has lower rated players. The total score is the way ranks are determined, with ties broken by post-event ratings.
The top-scoring player(s) in the Open and the top-scoring player(s) in the Reserve will receive a shout-out on the Chess Club at UWM's Instagram at the end of the semester. If a player has played some events in the Open and some in the Reserve, the section that the player has primarily played will be the determined section played by that player. If it is an even 50/50 split, the player will be deemed an Open player.
Starting in Spring 2024, players rated 1600+ may have the option to play in the Premier section, in which they play one G/90+30 game instead of two G/45d5 games. A win in Premier will count as two wins in the Open, while a draw in Premier will count as one win in the Open. A loss in Premier counts as no points.
Teams will earn points according to the placement of their players. The sum of all of a team's Open players' points is the score a team earns in the Open. The sum of all of a team's Reserve players' points is the score a team earns in the Reserve.Â
Players for a university club team are current students, faculty, staff, or alumni of a university. Players unaffiliated to any university or university chess club will compete as unattached players and will be ineligible for team prizes.
