My Writing Projects

This is a place where kids can record the process, progress and product of their writing during writer's workshop.  They will bring their digital portfolio to our individual writer's conferences where they share their writing with a teacher who supports and guides kids to make what they are accomplishing in their writing process visible and set goals for growth.  

7/20/2025 My latest writing project is to make a website for Bridges Academy. 

 I am writing about all the things we do here at school so that parents and kids can look on our site and know how Bridges Academy works.  I am working on this project with my son, Scott who is the other teacher at Bridges Academy.  We started this project a couple of weeks ago together.  My goal is for our website to go public on Monday, July 28th.  Our goal is to create a website that explains and promotes our school so that more kids and families will want to join us! My audience for this writing project is families with middle school aged kids living in and around Huntersville, NC where our school is located.

7/15/2025 Today I did some research to figure out how to make a learning portfolio.  I watched this video,  How To Make A Portfolio on Google Sites  to help me understand how to create a digital learning portfolio and then started to create one while I watched the video.  My goal is to put a link to my learning portfolio on the website so that parents will know what a learning portfolio is like and how it shares the learning  journey of their child.  Here is a video I watched of another teacher showing people about digital portfolios in her classroom.  I can use this video as an example. 

One challenge I ran into today was what Pages to include.  To solve this problem, I started looking at lots of examples of different student learning portfolios to find one that I thought matched up well with what I am trying to create with our students. 

One thing that went really well today was that I was able to easily figure out how to link things into the digital portfolio like Youtube Videos, photos and Google Docs so that I could show the kind of work I'm doing to figure out how to make a digital portfolio.
