The department consists of 9 specialists combining expertise and experience. The department is both enthusiastic and forward thinking with a deep rooted love for Physical Education. Our department aims are simple. We aim to ensure that all pupils; o Develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activityo Are physically active for sustained periods of timeo Engage in competitive sports and activitieso Understand how to lead healthy, active lives. Quality first teaching in lessons is our foundation and priority. Students are exposed to a range of activities and taught with a relentless focus on activity, progress, challenge and enjoyment in every lesson. We follow both a Health based model and Games based model through KS3 PE. At KS4 the priority is activity. We recognise the changing attitude toward physical activity so provide different pathways for activity which allows students to be autonomous and follow the pathway which suits and challenges them, thereby allowing physical activity to remain a consistent and positive influence in their lives long after they leave education. Our extra-curricular programme is extensive and successful with opportunities and pathways for all, led by specialists in each sport and activity. We believe that this style of organisation leads to students being both inspired and coached to a high level of competitive sports and non competitive activities. Cherwell competes Nationally in a number of sports and has a tradition of high participation and success.
