Who are We?

Wondering how Chelbug Fest started?

Chelbug Fest was originally started as a way to honor and preserve the life mission of Chelsea Marie Carriere, who was diagnosed at birth with Nemaline Myopathy Muscular Dystrophy.

Chelsea was a very passionate individual, always utilizing any chance she had to promote the idea of inclusion and self advocacy for individuals living with Muscular Dystrophy or differently abled. After her passing in October of 2017 at 27 years old, family and friends have come together to ensure her message lives on.

The purpose of Chelbug Fest is to raise funding for Camp Starlite, a camp put on for children with Muscular Dystrophy as well as assist with financial needs of Acadiana's Muscular Dystrophy community, all while uniting the Lafayette community around this incredible cause.

Chelsea's absolute favorite time of year was Camp - at the time, known as "Rainbow Camp"!

Because of her love for camp and everyone that attended, this is why Chelbug Fest's primary focus is to provide the camp with anything it might need to continue to be the best week of the year for individuals like Chelsea.
