What is Camp Starlite?

Camp Starlite is an annual summer camp put on in the last weekend of June by the Muscular Dystrophy Association for children diagnosed with muscular dystrophy.

This camp is so incredibly important to the kids as it gives them a week to be amongst peers that can relate to them, gives them time to be independent from their primary caregivers, and allows them to experience fun and adventure like never before. They form life long friendships, confidence, and the ability to be themselves around others who experience life in similar ways that they do.

Camp Starlite is the Louisiana MDA summer camp, and annually Chelbug Fest utilizes funds raised from our annual festival to assist in getting supplies to make camp out of this world amazing for the kids, and provide any supplies the camp needs to put on a successful week.

Many of the campers and counselors alike agree, camp is the absolute most wonderful time of year - and anything we can do to assist with continuing to keep it so, is our priority as an organization!

This year, Chelbug Fest was able to contribute to Camp Starlite by providing shower chairs and other custom shower supplies for the campers, a photo booth with props, and more!

At Chelbug Fest's annual music festival in March 2019, festival attendees were encouraged to "buy a cool towel, give a cool towel" - for every cool towel sold at the festival, one was sent to camp, allowing every camper and counselor to have a bright yellow reminder to cool off throughout camp activities!

Some of our Chelbug Fest Board members also got to attend the Ice Cream Party on night 1 of camp, kicking off the best week of the year with the coolest kids around!
