First Grade Summer Review
Reading:
· Read for at least 20 minutes daily (read for enjoyment)
· Identify parts of a book – (title, author, illustrator & table of contents)
· Monitor reading comprehension
· Review that stories have settings, characters, problems, resolutions, and conclusions
· Practice retelling a story in logical order
· Identify and read at least 100 high-frequency words : Click Here
· Review compound words
· Review the difference between fiction and nonfiction books
· Identify and read contractions (e.g. isn’t (is not), can’t (cannot), etc.)
· Review prediction and cause/effect
Writing:
· Generate ideas for writing
· Capitalization and punctuation with spacing between words
· Review Long Vowel – silent (e) at the end - e.g. (hope, take, etc.)
· Practice spelling base words by adding (s) to make them plural
· Have your child to share his/her writing
· Make sure ideas are in logical order – does the writing make sense

· 2D shapes: circles, triangles, rectangles, squares, rectangles, rhombuses, and hexagons

· Be able to show equal parts (halves and fourths)
