Expertise: System Design, Control, and Applications in Power Electronics and Mechatronics
Interests: I am particularly interested in the design, management, and control of a wide range of dynamic systems, especially energy storage systems (e.g., batteries and ultracapacitors), microgrids and smart grids, high-frequency wireless power transfer systems, and electric vehicles, etc. This research contains strong "interdisciplinary" elements, i.e., the synergistic integration of physical systems, sensing, control theory and design, circuits and device implementations, and, increasingly importantly, human behavior, which makes it possible to produce more efficient, intelligent, resilient, and reliable systems.
Education:
Ph.D., Electrical Engineering, The University of Tokyo, Sep. 2004.
M.A., Electrical Engineering, The University of Tokyo, Sep. 2001.
B.S. with honor, Industrial Automation, East China University of Science and Technology, Jul. 1997.
Employment:
Tenure-track and now Tenured Faculty Member of Electrical and Computer Engineering, The University of Michigan-Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute (UM-SJTU JI), Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai, China, Aug. 2008-present (note: one of the first two junior tenure-track faculty members at UM-SJTU JI and the tenure casebook was reviewed at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor).
Postdoctoral Research Assistant, IMS-Mechatronics Laboratory, Department of Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering, University of California Davis, California, USA, Nov. 2006-Mar. 2008.
R&D Researcher, Servo Laboratory, Fanuc Limited, Yamanashi, Japan, Oct. 2004-Oct. 2006.
Public Servant, Nanshi District Government, Shanghai, China, Jul. 1997-Mar. 1999.
