Effective date: 10/16/2026
By installing or using Chatter Check: Classroom Noise Meter (“Chatter Check”), you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t install or use it.
1. Free to use
Chatter Check is free. You may install and use it on your own devices for teaching, classroom, and personal use. Schools and districts may install it on school devices for staff use.
2. What you may not do
You may not copy, modify, sell, or redistribute Chatter Check or its code, or publish it under a different name, without written permission.
3. A visual aid, not a measuring instrument
Chatter Check gives a general visual sense of classroom noise. It is not a calibrated sound level meter. Readings depend on your microphone, computer, and room, so they should not be used to measure hearing safety, meet workplace noise rules, or make any medical, safety, or disciplinary decision.
4. Your classroom, your judgment
Chatter Check is a classroom management aid. You are responsible for how it is used with your students, including whether visual feedback, color changes, the red screen tint, and chime sounds are appropriate for students with sensory needs or other individual needs. Chatter Check includes Gentle mode, a color-blind friendly palette, and a chime volume setting, and you can turn the chimes and tint off.
5. No warranty
Chatter Check is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. I don’t guarantee that it will be error free, work on every device, or always be available.
6. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent allowed by law, Ryan Kent is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or any loss of data, arising from your use of, or inability to use, Chatter Check. Because Chatter Check is free, my total liability for any claim is limited to zero dollars ($0). Some places do not allow certain limits, so these limits apply only as far as your local law permits.
7. Ownership and trademarks
Chatter Check, its name, logo, design, and code belong to Ryan Kent. Google and Chrome are trademarks of Google LLC. Chatter Check is not made, endorsed, or sponsored by Google.
8. Independent project
Chatter Check is a personal project. It is not created, endorsed, or supported by any school, district, or employer.
9. Updates and changes
I may update, change, or stop offering Chatter Check at any time. I may also update these terms. If I do, I will change the effective date at the top of this page. Continuing to use Chatter Check after a change means you accept the updated terms.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict of law rules.
