Chatter Check is a free Chrome extension that shows a noise meter on web pages so teachers and students can see how loud a classroom is.
What Chatter Check does with the microphone
Chatter Check uses your computer's microphone only to measure how loud the room is. The sound is turned into a single loudness number on your computer, used to move the meter, and then thrown away. Chatter Check does not record audio, save audio, or send audio anywhere.
What Chatter Check stores
Chatter Check saves your settings, such as the meter style, its position on the screen, your saved class settings, your language, and your quiet streak timer. These are stored using Chrome's built-in extension storage. If you are signed in to Chrome with sync turned on, Chrome may sync these settings between your own devices. Chatter Check does not receive a copy of them.
What Chatter Check does not do
It does not collect personal information.
It does not have accounts or logins.
It does not use ads, analytics or tracking.
It does not read, collect or change the content of the web pages you visit. It only displays the meter on top of them.
It does not sell or share any data, because it does not collect any.
Children and schools
Chatter Check does not collect any information from students or teachers, so there is no student data to protect or share.
