ChatterBox Terms of Use

Effective date: 10/1/2026

By installing or using ChatterBox: Classroom Noise Meter ("ChatterBox"), you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't install or use it.

1. Free to use

ChatterBox is free. You may install and use it on your own devices for teaching, classroom, and personal use. Schools and districts may install it on school devices for staff use.

2. What you may not do

You may not copy, modify, sell, or redistribute ChatterBox or its code, or publish it under a different name, without written permission.

3. A visual aid, not a measuring instrument

ChatterBox gives a general visual sense of classroom noise. It is not a calibrated sound level meter. Readings depend on your microphone, computer, and room, so they should not be used to measure hearing safety, meet workplace noise rules, or make any medical, safety, or disciplinary decision.

4. Your classroom, your judgment

ChatterBox is a classroom management aid. You are responsible for how it is used with your students, including whether visual and color-based feedback is appropriate for students with sensory needs or other individual needs.

5. No warranty

ChatterBox is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. I don't guarantee that it will be error free, work on every device, or always be available.

6. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent allowed by law, Ryan Kent is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or any loss of data, arising from your use of, or inability to use, ChatterBox. Because ChatterBox is free, my total liability for any claim is limited to zero dollars ($0).

7. Ownership and trademarks

ChatterBox, its name, logo, design, and code belong to Ryan Kent. Google and Chrome are trademarks of Google LLC. ChatterBox is not made, endorsed, or sponsored by Google.

8. Independent project

ChatterBox is a personal project. It is not created, endorsed, or supported by any school, district, or employer.

9. Updates and changes

I may update, change, or stop offering ChatterBox at any time. I may also update these terms. If I do, I will change the effective date at the top of this page. Continuing to use ChatterBox after a change means you accept the updated terms.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict of law rules.
