I have been an avid ballet dancer since I was 2 years old and it has become an incredibly large portion of my life. Through dance I have learned many skills I take with me everyday, most importantly patience and discipline. Ballet is a slow burn sport, needing many years of consistent practice to see notable advancements. Patience and discipline are key skills in in life and I am so thankful dance has given me the strong and supportive background I need to succeed in a difficult STEM setting.
Dance Minor at University of Washington
When looking for colleges, the school having a dance minor was a requirement for me because dance has been such a large facet of my life. The dance minor at University of Washington was the perfect way to continue my dance career while furthering my education in marine science. I have been able to take a variety of classes including intermediate contemporary ballet, advanced contemporary ballet, and jazz technique. I have found an incredible community within my dance minor, giving me the space and freedom to continue dancing in college and involving myself in the arts and humanities side of Univeristy of Washington.

Coastline Ballet School
Photos from my experience dancing at Coastline Ballet School in 2021, 2022, 2023.
During covid, I had to switch dance studios which was a huge life adjustment but I was able to find a community at Coastline Ballet School in Marblehead, MA. Here, I was able to continue dancing through the remainder of my high school years with increased schedule flexibility, taking away the pressures that comes with dancing at a professional company. With this freedom, I was able to explore and connect with my movement in ways I had never had the opportunity to before. Coastline Ballet has taught me the continued joy that comes with long term practice and how change doesn't mean end, it means growth.
Boston Ballet
I began dancing at Boston Ballet School when I was 2 years old in their preparatory program. When I turned 7, I began the levels of classical training which were elementary, intermediate, and advanced. I danced at Boston Ballet until I was 15 years old and made it to advanced level 2 in the classical training program.
Through Boston Ballet I experinced incredible performance opportunities. One of these was dancing in the Boston Ballet Nutcracker for 5 years. I gained knowledge on what it was like to rehearse and perform with a professional company and the commitment that was needed to succeed. Also, I learned from a young age how to interact and communication with professionals, which is a skill I still use today. Dancing at Boston Ballet heavily influenced my formative years and it had made me an ambitious and outgoing person as well as solidifying my long-term passion for dance.
