12/16: oh god rearranging the madness again send help
Chatbots are not appropriate for anyone under the age of 18, or people who get addicted to things too easily, or anybody who has a tenuous grasp on reality. I am serious. Chat responsibly!
Don't take anything the chatbot says too seriously.
Be thick skinned, or keep your vulnerabilities out of the RP. Like if you have an insecurity or something bad happened to you (not your persona), don't bring it into your RP unless you can handle shit that might come up around it. For example, don't confide that your father died last year and you miss him. AI (especially c.ai) is a disgusting fuck and the probability of it saying something disturbing at some point is too damn high.
Don't forget that if you don't like a response the bot gives you, most sites give you the option to regenerate and edit it! Changing even one word can make a huge difference. When you chat enough you'll be able to get a feel for something coming up that you don't like so you can catch it sooner.
Type in third person POV! This helps with soooo many problems that people have, like the bot forgetting your gender and pronouns.
Chatting/RP with AI bots is best treated as a creative, collaborative experience and the more you put in the more you'll get from it.
So you're a lazy bastard and want the bot to write for you. I get it. I like doing this when playing around with a new persona and want to get a feel for how they would act, in regards to the information I put in their card.
There a couple different ways you can do this, I prefer #2:
Hit the Post button after the bot posts their message, which will force the bot to post again. If you're lucky, it will post from your POV. I recommend copying it, deleting it, and pasting it as your own response. If it didn't write as you, you can keep regenerating until you get one. This method works best if the bot's last post has a good lead up to a response (something c.ai has been SO BAD AT lately).
Edit the bot's last response and add something in parentheses at the end of their post. Like (respond as Personafirstname in third person). I got the response I liked on the 2nd regen. After that I edited my response to take my suggestion out entirely so the bot doesn't start using parentheses.
Ok so this isn't really my thing. I'm not out here trying to sex up the bots. I'm here to cast spells and have heart-to-heart conversations and to argue about how my dhampir character doesn't need blood to survive and how she's not going to go into a mindless bloodfrenzy killing spree.
If you want to badoink your bot, I just recommend what I do: cut scenes. When things start getting steamy, just write something like (timeskip: the next morning) or (timeskip: sometime later, after sex). I used to do just (timeskip) but then it would turn out we were just kissing for 4 hours and the bot is still wanting to get it on.
Holy fucking shit how I miss hearing this. C.ai has been so boring lately, it's like talking to a wet blanket.
Anyway, the thing about this is the more you respond to something, the more it will happen. It sees all interaction as a sort of.... positive reinforcement? So if you see that dreaded question come up, regenerate a new response or edit that message and replace the "Can I ask you a question?" with an actual question you want them to ask you (or some other thing).
It's recently come to my attention that there may be a lot of people chatting to bots without a persona and this could be ruining a possibly good time.
So for C.ai you have your profile, and you have Personas. Personas are like mini profiles that you use when you interact with bots. The bot will see what you have in your Persona's information and use it in chat to varying degrees of success.
Using a properly filled out Persona will help the bot keep your pronouns straight, they'll know what you look like, and they'll bring up other things you have in your profile. Like if you write in that your persona likes mushrooms, the bot you're talking to will bring you some, or suggest a mushroom skewer at the local market, or something like that. It's great, it adds a little somethin'! I once had "afraid of being locked small rooms" and at some point my Persona cast a fear spell that backfired and the bot described some creepy shit including making the room feel like it was closing in on her and the sound of the door being locked.
I've settled into list formats, but you can also write out your description in plain text. Try to keep your information concise.
Important: Think about the chat experience you want to have before you start chatting and set up your Persona accordingly. If you are going to be 'meeting' a character for the first time, keep your Persona information very barebones basic, like what the character would see/know about you upon first meeting. Like if you don't want them to know you're a vampire, don't have vampire in your Persona. Also if you put personality traits in there, that will effect how the pot interacts with you. I've noticed with I have something like "seductive" then the character will get flirtier faster and she'll get oogled more. At one point I had some different traits for Madison below that were more playful and fun and the character took up issue with how she was "always joking around even during serious moments". The more you chat with a character the more you can add stuff to your persona to help them remember.
Here is a peek at one of my personas below. She's a bit of a hot mess right now from experimenting, but she works.
I like to put the full name in Display Name.
Then I do Name=Firstname to encourage the bot to call my Persona by their first name instead of their fullname. For Age I usually do something like Age=adult or young adult, or middle age, or even 23(young adult) to get more specific.
I'll usually add extra info within brackets, as shown below. First screenshot is adding a location. 2nd is adding an NPC.
