A good layout goes beyond the traditional three rows, and includes multiple kinds of media in some instances. Although my paper is traditional, at my time at the Pioneer Press, I've had the opportunity to work on my design skills through doing layout on Adobe InDesign, and occasionally illustrator. I've created dozens of spreads over the past three years, below are two of my most vibrant examples.
Small town Sandy has strong opinions about Oregon's largest city Portland. I love this page because it includes a lot of interesting design visuals, alternative reporting in the graphics and multiple perspectives.

Last Minute Fiasco
I created this page in one class period after an editor had struggled. The information was present, but it was truly a test of my abilities to help out and fix things as Editor-in-Cheif. I like this page because of the color blocks, fading effect into the background and the title fonts.
