4 pieces of pine and 4 pieces of Walnut were evenly cut out using a Miter Saw to be 4" x 4" each. The pieces were then stacked in the specified pattern and then glued onto one another using wood glue. Once in place, 3 clamps were used to ensure a secure connection of wood.
This pattern gives it the signature barrel look
For steps 4-6, the center of the box was located and a circle with a 1.5" radius was drawn. The box was then run through a bandsaw and relief cuts were made until the rough shape was cut, The box was then sanded down to the correct shape using a belt sander.
For steps 6-11, a bandsaw was used to cut into the box and cut out the inside circle (visible on right). the notches made in the side of the box were then glued back on and set to dry (visible on left)
For step 12, a hand held wood file was taken to the inside of the barrel in an attempt smooth out the imperfections on the inside were the bandsaw cut too far. after the file did its job sand paper was used to get a finer finish on the inside of the barrel and the outside was smoothed out with sand papper aswell.
For steps 13-14, the inside chunk of wood got turned into the drawer for the barrel. both ends were cut off and then the main part cut in half the long way. After picking which side would be the drawer a 1/4" thickness was measured and cut out for the cavity of the drawer.
For steps 15-17, the ends of the drawer were glued back on the the drawer and set to dry, and the piece of the main box that was cut off at the start was glued back in place acting as the back end of the barrel. For the handle of the drawer the wood that was cut out of the drawer cavity was reduced down to a small piece with both wood types on it and glued onto the front of the drawer.
