Charles Suor

Charles "Charlie" Suor is a writer, cultural studies scholar, and Tampa’s own crypt keeper. Holding a master's degree in Women's, Gender & Sexuality Studies from the University of South Florida, Charlie specializes in analyzing the intersection of gender, cult & horror films, and alternative music subcultures. He is the horror host of the film review series Cinema Crypt. He also acts as co-chair for the Tampa Bay Trans Film Festival and a board member for TIGLFF Queer Film & Arts.

"Sex and Music"

The discussion of music includes examining instrumental and lyrical products as well as themes, performance, and listener experience. Music is also used as a marker for culture with popular music and genre allowing insight into society of that era. Gender and sexuality in music are representative of societal expectations for the performers and audiences. Music demonstrates the cycle of backlash and progression of social ideals, such as gender and racial equality. This overview looks at the history of sex in Western music from the 11th century to modern times using themes of different genres with reference to youth culture.
