Charles "Charlie" Suor is a writer, cultural studies scholar, and Tampa’s own crypt keeper. Holding a master's degree in Women's, Gender & Sexuality Studies from the University of South Florida, Charlie specializes in analyzing the intersection of gender, cult & horror films, and alternative music subcultures. He is the horror host of the film review series Cinema Crypt and author of the zine Transylvanian Horror. He also acts as co-chair for the Tampa Bay Trans Film Festival and a board member for TIGLFF Queer Film & Arts.

"The Spectacle and His Master: Allusions to The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920) in Phantom of the Paradise (1974)"

The visuals in The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920) are known for their influence on goth and horror aesthetics. References to The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari are not uncommon, but Phantom of the Paradise (1974) brings them to the extreme. This essay examines the characters of Caligari and Cesare as well as their shadows in Phantom. I argue that Caligari acts as a controlling masculine force to Cesare, a character who pushes the boundary lines on autonomy and gender.
